These short videos prove they don’t work and time would be far better spent moving cars, belongings and installing Property Flood Resilience.
Sandbags are also heavy, unsustainable and environmentally unfriendly. (Sand can block drains too, making the potential for floods to be worse the next time.) And once used, they have to be disposed of with contaminated waste.
As if that is not bad enough, this image shows a huge pile of contaminated sandbags waiting for disposal after the Somerset floods of 2014. I think you will agree that this is not a pretty sight and shows the dirty side of using sandbags… one that no one seems to see or think about.
